About the fiber network in Uniontown.
The fiber under Uniontown is an open-access network. The company that builds and maintains the glass does not sell internet, and independent providers compete to sell service over it.
The network is mStreet Alabama, a $230 million privately financed build running more than 300 miles across west-central Alabama, headquartered on Church Street in Selma with a data center at Selma University. Uniontown sits in the southwest corner of Perry County, and the whole county is inside the build, so Marion and the communities between the two are on the same network.
mStreet Alabama builds and runs the network. It does not sell internet service directly.

Uniontown has more than 700 ready-for-service addresses on about 104 named streets, essentially all of it inside the 36786 ZIP. The town is compact, and that is the whole reason the coverage is as complete as it is. Fiber does not have far to travel between houses here.
Martin Luther King Drive carries the most addresses on the list, followed by West Avenue, East Avenue, Broadway Avenue, Washington Street, Jones Street, Cobb Street, Plumbee Street, Bonner Street, Gray Street and South Street. Hamburg Duncan Road and County Road 21 pick up the addresses that sit outside the street grid.
The footprint straddles a county line. Most of Uniontown is in Perry County and part of it runs into Marengo, and the build does not stop at the line. An address on either side gets checked exactly the same way and gets the same price.
