About the fiber network in Valley Grande.
The fiber running through Valley Grande belongs to an open-access network. The company that owns and maintains the glass does not sell internet service, and independent providers compete to sell what runs over it.
The network is mStreet Alabama, a $230 million privately financed build covering more than 300 miles of west-central Alabama, headquartered on Church Street in Selma with a data center at Selma University. Valley Grande cleared the right-of-way for it in late 2023 and the build pushed north out of Selma into the city through 2024. Valley Grande incorporated in January 2003, which makes it the youngest city on this network, and at more than 1,800 addresses it is also the second largest.
mStreet Alabama builds and runs the network. It does not sell internet service directly.

County Road 16, County Road 37, County Road 81 and County Road 277 carry the most addresses, alongside Alabama Highway 22, Merrifield Drive, Persimmon Tree Road, Rush Seymore Road, Berry Road, Rountree Drive and Lazy Acres. Will my price go up?
The rate is locked for 2+ years. Underneath it is a wholesale fee we pay the network operator for every home we serve, and your price only moves if that fee does. If that ever happens you hear the amount and the date from us as soon as we know them, and your price changes by exactly that much. Nothing resets at month 13.
What equipment do I need?
A fiber modem, and it comes with the install at no charge. WiFi is separate and optional: Managed WiFi is $12.95 a month with a router matched to your plan and your house, or use your own and we will tell you whether it is up to the speed you picked.
